Revan's Life Record Preface by ~Flame800900:iconFlame800900:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Revan's Life: Record
Prologue: The Past is Prologue

Coruscant, Supreme Chancellor's office, midday
3,957 BBY

"Supreme Chancellor, we've found something," the man practically shouted as he entered the office.

"What?" the Supreme Chancellor asked, looking up from his work. The man who had entered was carrying medium sized box.

"Recordings of the Dark Lord's life," the man said excitedly as he placed the box on the Supreme Chancellor's desk. "These could really help the war effort."

"I would not count," sighed Wayro, the Supreme Chancellor, as he reached into the box. "Darth Revan would not give us anything which could be used against-" he cut off as he took out the holo-emitter, his eyes widened as shock swept through him; its date was twenty-one-years-old. How could this be? It wasn't possible, was it? Why would Darth Revan give them journals dating back so far into the Sith's past? What was Revan up to? He turned these questions over in his head as he looked more closely at the holo-emitter he held. It could be a fake, but he doubted it.

"We found this on an outer rim planet, sir," the man explained. He hesitated before continuing, "The box showed signs of having recently been opened, but our records show Revan hasn't left the fleet… at all, although Admiral Danika Shunda and another woman have been reported dead." The news of the Admiral's death caused the man to smile, but Wayro felt no joy in her death. It was just another tragedy of this war. So many had left them to join Revan, many more had been killed, and those were not the only tragedy. They had lost one of the greatest Jedi of the time to this war… Revan. He had known the Sith Lord from long ago… before Revan had gone off to war against the Mandalorians. Back then Revan had been completely different, but now….

Wayro nodded in recognition he had heard the other man, he had been informed of the two women's deaths two hours ago. They were said to have been killed in a fire fight against some other Sith Troopers and, it was said, Malak had been the one to order their deaths. Neither woman's bodies had shown up to conform this; however. "Has there been any word on who Revan has chosen to replace Admiral Shunda?" asked Wayro, his voice even, not betraying any of his inner emotions as he absently took out the next holo-emitter. This one was libeled for nearly nine-years-later. What was going on? Why had Revan left all these on that world? It made no sense.

"There are rumors, but nothing that I would trust," stated the man blandly.

"Is that so?" Wayro looked up from were he had been reading the dates off of the holo-emitters he had been pulling out of the box. He had heard many of the same rumors and knew Revan would never chose Saul Karath, or would the Sith Lord? Had the once great Jedi fallen so far to do so?

"Yes, sir," said the man, "though I don't believe there is any Admiral who will compare to Admiral Shunda."

"Hmm… there may be one Admiral, one who is far more ruthless," far, far more ruthless and the one person he desperately hopped Revan would not chose.

"You mean-" the man spoke the next words with as much venom as possible, "-Admiral Saul Karath?"

"Yes," he said almost sorrowfully. Saul had been a hero of the Mandalorian wars like Revan had, but, like Revan, he had turned on them.

"I still can't believe he betrayed us," the man glared out the darkened widow, which was blocking out the bright, midday light. "It's even harder to believe that it's been over two years since that fatal-" A loud clunk interrupted the man as Wayro dropped the holo-emitter he had been holding and it rolled off of the desk onto the floor. "Sorry, sir," said the man sounding truly apologetic, "I forget sometimes you have more reason to hate him than most."

Shaking his head to dislodge some the sorrow he felt towards the loss of his homeworld, he said, "I was fortunate enough none of my family was on Telos at the time."

"What happened to your family, sir?" asked the man, looking at him with regret at his slipup plain on his face.

"My wife, Viya, is here with me, my son, Captain Ray, is also here overseeing the training of recruits, and I have no idea what became of my daughter, Rayra." Rayra, what had happened to her?

"Your daughter, you've never mentioned her before," stated the man a little taken aback.

"That is because I have not seen her since Revan joined the Mandalorian Wars," explained Wayro, oh, how he missed her. It had been… years since he had last he'd seen her. Quickly he changed the subject, trying to get these depressing out of his head, "Well, we should probably see what we have here." He picked up the holo-emitter with the earliest date on it and flicked it on.

Darth Revan materialized before them, dressed in the now legendary robes, armor, and mask which were all rendered blue by the emitter, though the memory of so many descriptions of what the Sith looked like was vided in his mind's eye. "Congratulations, Supreme Chancellor, you have found my journals," said the figure in a distinctly female voice which sounded strong, scratchy, and horse as if she had a permanent sore throat.

"How does Revan know we found it?" asked the man. He shook his head, shocked as he asked, "Wait, Revan's a girl?"

Wayro shushed him as Revan continued, "If you are watching this then that means I am dead or soon will be-"

Once again, the man interrupted, "What is she talking-"

"Quiet," hissed Wayro, gesturing for him to be seated. This man was just being plain annoying. The reason why Revan had sent them the journals could be recorded in the first few seconds and if that man wouldn't be quiet they would miss it.

"You probably have not received word of my death," said Revan, it was hard to discern her emotions as it always had been, "but I assure you, you will not have to worry about me for much longer, for, one way or another, I will, quite literally, be dead." She paused, glancing over her shoulder before returning her attention to whatever had been before her when she had been recording this, "Be forewarned, Supreme Chancellor, Malak will not be as kind as I have. I have tried my hardest to keep the Republic… intact. I know I have failed in this by Telos's destruction and the planets I have seen being destroyed in my visions."  Letting out a long breath, she continued, "I wish I could have protected Telos from its fate, but… I could not and for this I apologize." She paused as if to gather her thoughts, "I apologize for this and more. I know realize it was a mistake ever allowing so many Jedi to follow me and I wish more then anything else they had never come with me.

"I have failed in my reason for attacking the Republic, I could not strengthen you and, now, I am leaving you with, not just one threat, but two. One I am responsible for, I am deeply sorry for leaving you with him to contend with as well as them. The second threat is far more deadly than first and they are a faction who caused Mandalore to start his war all those years ago. They are also the reason why I started this war. I now know I have only weakened the Republic further and either Malak or they well eventually take over the Republic or… completely obliterate it.

"It is times like this I wonder what would have happened if they had not started that fire twenty-three-years-ago. Would the Republic have been better off if I had never been found? If the slavers-" she spat the word with far more hatred than he had ever heard from anyone before, "-had secede in taking me or if I had grown up as close to a normal child as possible? What would have happened if I had followed the High Councils wishes and not gone to war? Would another Jedi now be in my place? Would the Republic have fallen? I have asked myself these questions many times and always I come to the same conclusion. I would rather be the one in this position; I would not have wanted this destiny forced upon another Jedi… or Sith.

"I know now it was always my destiny to betray or be betrayed by everything I once held dear and I can blame no one accept myself. Even for the events I had nothing to do with, yet, was responsible for.

"I have thought long and hard about when this all truly started and it was not when I joined the Order, it was two-years-later, when Malak and I first met…" she trailed off.

"This is so weird," commented the man. "I never thought the Dark Lord would have regrets. Did you, sir?"

"Yes," he replied in a voice filled with sorrow as he remembered the Revan from long ago. Had it really almost been seven-years since that day?

At last, Revan continued, "Before you go into the journals, Supreme Chancellor, I want to tell you thank you. When I first met you, you opened the window into my past and allowed me to discover who I had once been and what my birth name was. As you well know I have gone by Revan far longer then the span of these two wars, but what you did not know is Revan is not my real name." WHAT? How was this possible? What was her real name? These questions raced around his mind as she continued, "Also, you know when I came to Telos to protect you, your family, and help stop the raiders I paid a visit to the local hospital. I wish what I had found out was not what it was; however, I can not change who I was born or the path the Force has laid out for me. You will find out what I discovered in one of the journals before you.

"Farewell, Supreme Chancellor Wayro FireForce, we will not meet again." At that Revan bowed and the hologram vanished to be replaced with that of a four-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy. Though it was hard to tell, the girl had long hair and stood several inches to, maybe, a foot shorter than the boy.

"Is it working?" asked the boy, glancing at the girl before leaning in closer to, what must have been, this device. He blinked as he looked closely at, as if hoping that would help see whether or not it was on or not.

"No idea," replied the girl in a small, quiet voice. A voice she had grown out of from the years of war and bloodshed. It was hard to believe who this small, quiet girl would grow up to be.

"Testing, one, two, three, testing Revan's fist creation… testing-" he cut off as his hand flew forward. The image shuttered as he must have hit it.

"Alek, you are not supposed to hit it," said the younger Revan, calmly, looking at him with her ever calm eyes, or ever calm until this last two wars.

"Oh, sorry, Rev." The boy looked worried as he asked, "Did I damage it?" he tilted his head to one side, his eyes now on the girl.

The girl vanished briefly. "No, it is fine… and on," the reply sounded close as if she was standing next to the device.

"Cool," said Alek. "Hi, I'm Alek and that girl that-" the boy cut off as he looked around. "Rev, you're supposed to be over here not seeing if I broke it."

"I know," said Revan, reappearing next to Alek.

"You sure that I didn't break it?" he asked just as worried.

"Positive," replied Revan with a nod of her head.

Alek let out a long sigh, looking relieved at her words, "Thank the Force for that. You spent too much time on this for me to mess it up in the first go."

Revan smiled. "We will see how long that lasts," she teased.

"Are you saying that I'm a klutz?" asked Alek, playing along with his friend. Even his expression seemed to be a joke. He looked almost indigent, until he seemed to no longer be able to hold a huge grin.

"Not at all," said Revan with a slight bow.

"Yeah right, and you're not a Kath hound," he managed to keep a straight face for a full minute before he burst out laughing

"Why… thank you," said Revan as she once again bowed. It looked as if she was trying not laugh. Her words only caused Alek to laugh harder, he fell over, laughing his head off.

Once he had managed to stop laughing and stood, he asked, "So… why did you make this?"

"So, I would remember the day we became friends," Revan replied, her face once again the mask of calm.

Alek laughed, wiping the tears from his eyes. "No, really, why?" he asked disbelievingly.

Revan folded her arms across her chest, a gesture which made Wayro shudder, it reminded him too much of the now day Revan. "I was not lying," she stated calmly.

"Oh." Alek grind, embarrassed, "Do you want to tell the story or should I?"

"Let us both," said Revan, a knowing smile playing at the edges of her lips.

"Okay. You start," Alek gestured for her to start speaking.

"Alright-" so, Revan began telling them the story.

Several seconds in, she was interrupted by Alek, "Wait, you thought that I was going to call you freak like the rest of them? I didn't realize I was that scary." He screwed up his features and mimed walking stiffly with his arms out before him. Revan glared at him. "Sorry, Rev, go on," he said, taking a slight step back.

Once again, Revan started and this time she wasn't interrupted by him, but by information being over written or recorded just after her younger self had started and then maybe later it would pick back up where it cut off. The image flickered and was replaced by one of an older Revan… a Revan who looked to be about twenty. "Missed the entrance," she muttered under her breath, "I had forgotten how terrible this machine was compared to the newer ones."

"You did what now?" asked an elderly voice from somewhere off to the right.

"Sorry, Master Iyda," said the young Revan as she glanced at whoever had been speaking.

"I'm not your Master," said the elderly woman, coming into view. In one hand she held a gnarled cane which she leaned heavily on, her back hunched slightly and her eyes looking tired and worn.

"Humph, that is what I have told most of the Revanchists," stated Revan, looking up at the woman from where she was kneeling by the device.

Iyda burst out laughing. Once she had stopped laughing, she said, "Sorry, hon, it's been a long time since I've had something to laugh about."

"No need to apologize," said Revan, waving aside her words with a flick of her wrist.

"Every need to, hon," replied the woman. "Now, what is it that you wish for me to do?" she asked, looking almost strictly at the younger woman.

"Say your name and what you told me earlier," replied Revan.

"And be quick about it," called a deep, male voice. "We could be discovered at any moment."
"Malak, patience," stated Revan. "I do not sense any Mandalorians in the area."

"Right, I'll just go watch for the Bucket heads," he muttered in a somewhat angry voice, sounding highly displeased about all this.

"You go do that, Youngling," said Iyda, looking in the direction the voice had come from.

"I'm a Knight… and Master's name is not hon," snapped Malak, his voice low and dangerous.

"Malak," Revan said as sternly as she could.

"All right already," Wayro could just make muttering coming from Malak's general direction. It appeared Malak wasn't enjoying this one bit at all, which made Wayro smile slightly.

After a moments silence Revan nodded to the older woman and she began, "I am Iyda FireForce-"

"Wait, did that woman just say FireForce?" asked the man standing. Wayro could only stare at the hologram. Was this woman… could she be… was it possible…

Iyda continued, "-and I have much to tell you. It all started with a vision, many years after I gave up my son to an old friend. I had known that it was against the code to fall in love and have a child, but, alas, it is sometimes imposable to follow the code. The vision came just a month before I was banished from the order and-"

Interesting; I like the interaction between Alek and Revan, with Revan being a bit infuriating, calm and Jedi-ish.

Hmm... Revan's intro (hologram version) was interesting to read. She grasped my attention immediately. :reading: I wanted to have her get more of it out! Whatever she was going to say. I was pleased to find out that she "regreted" what she'd done. It makes me like her more. :D

I did find it hard to understand what was going on at first :? (when Rev and Malak popped on as kids and then suddenly it switched to the M. War) But I'm guessing it'll make more sense when I continue. :)
